New Marquee II

Work continued on the new Marquee on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday the electrician was in and started running some additional power. Hugh Reams was also in, prepping to run the Fiber optic lines through to the overhang at the same time the power goes through.

On Friday the fellows from Kerley Sign were on site quite early along with Mr. Reams.

It was a long day for all. The new Marquee weighs quite a bit more than the old one; about 1800 pounds vs something less than 200 for the old. (Two people could easily handle either piece of that one...)

In order to properly secure it steel beams had to be welded in place first. First each beam had to be drilled to fit the new marquee pieces, then they could be lifted into and held in place using a forklift. Darrin, from Kerley, could then weld the first one in place.

By the time this was done with the first (and largest) it was time to secure the work area long enough for the High School to dismiss. While the Kerley crew was taking a short brake, the electricians from Mills Russell were busily pulling the power and fiber lines from inside the center to the overhang.

After dismissal, the largest section of the new marquee was lifted into place with the forklift, plumbed up, and finally bolted into place.

Next the process was repeated with the smaller section.

Monday the process should be complete. Tom Kerley, Jr will be in to set up the fiber connection with our network and to configure the software. I've been learing the the software this weekend and writing the display copy for upcoming events. We should be able to go live with the system late Monday morning.
